Tigers Weekly 2008 Season

Offseason Update #1: Call For Comments

Greetings, Tiger fans.

With all that has happened in the last few months I
feel compelled to write an off-season update sometime
in the near future. The issue will be much more
interesting if it includes your thoughts and views of
the numerous changes in the Tigers organization and
the Mitchell Report which is to be released today. I
have discussed some of these things privately with a
few of you, but if you'd like to include something in
this issue, please send along a compiled version.
Here is a list of the significant moves the Tigers
made since the end of the 2007 season.

10/29 Traded Jair Jurrjens and OF Gorkys Hernandez to
Atlanta for SS Edgar Renteria

11/11 Resigned Ramon Santiago for 1 year

11/12 Traded Omar Infante to the Cubs for left-handed
OF Jacque Jones

11/13 Resigned Todd Jones for 1 year

11/30 Resigned Kenny Rogers for 1 year

12/4 Traded Jose Capellan to Colorado for RH
reliever Denny Bautista

12/5 Traded Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, Mike
Rabelo, and minor leaguers Burke Bradenhop, Eulogio De
La Cruz, and Dallas Trahern to Florida for Dontrelle
Willis and Miguel Cabrera

12/5 Traded Chris Shelton to Texas for OF Freddy
Guzman

12/11 Resigned Timo Perez for 1 year

12/12 Released Chad Durbin

The big trade for Cabrera means that Brandon Inge will
likely be leaving the organization (and Inge has made
it known that he would prefer to start as a 3B
somewhere else than stay on in a utility role). The
club also exercised their option on Pudge Rodriguez,
agreeing to pay him $13 million next year.

I'll probably be sending this out around the turn of
the new year, so that gives you some time to get it
all out there. I'm excited for next season, as the
Tigers should be strong contenders.

Back in a few weeks...
